Fall in the South brings its own flavor to fashion. The temperatures might not drop as drastically as in some other regions, so you'll want to focus on styles that offer a balance of comfort and seasonal flair. Fall fashion in North Carolina, particularly in a college town like Chapel Hill, often combines classic styles with a touch of casual comfort suiting all ages. Layers are key for those chilly mornings that break way to warmer afternoons.
Here's what’s trending at some of my favorite stores in Chapel Hill…
Boot Season! If it were cooler during the summer, I would wear boots all year round! But fall is the perfect time for stylish boots, and they come in a variety of colors. Pair booties, lace-ups and knee highs with jeans or dresses or even shorts for a sassy look. Don't forget those rainboots!
Simply Audrey is designer clothes and wine - located inside DB Sutton & Company at 406 W. Franklin Street. They also carry a selection of pre-loved pieces.
Given the strong college sports culture here, sporting that argyle look is a great choice for any game day. For those chilly night games whether watching at Kenan Stadium or at a favorite hangout, think about cozy hoodies, oversized sweatshirts, or scarves in Carolina blue.
The Shrunken Head Boutique carries everything UNC plus it's family owned and in operation for over 53 years! Other UNC fan gear shops: Johnny T-Shirt, Classic Carolina, Chapel Hill Sportswear, Alumni Hall Chapel Hill
Plaid shirts or skirts are timeless and can be dressed up or down. They're perfect for tailgates, casual outings, or even a tour through the North Carolina Botanical Garden.
Uniquities opened its first boutique in Chapel Hill in 1992 and has since expanded to Raleigh, Charlotte and Huntersville. You could easily update your whole fall wardrobe from this shop!.
Denim is a versatile choice and a classic. Denim goes with everything and it’s ageless; from jeans to jackets, it fits a laid-back atmosphere while still looking stylish.
Rumors Chapel Hill is a pre-owned store carrying everything from vintage clothing and footwear to sun glasses, handbags, and more accessories. If you're on a budget, love to mix and match and create your own style- this is your place!
Colder nights call for cozy knit sweaters. Perfect with jeans or leggings for a comfortable and trendy look. And hey, you can't go wrong with corduroy or velvet jeans with so many autumn colors to choose from. For me, that's comfort all the way! Small confession - I'm still wearing my boot cut cords from the late 2000s.
Narrative & Co isn't actually in Chapel Hill but just a short few blocks away at Carr Mill Mall in the Town of Carrboro. I love this shop because there's a great story behind the owner and of course I love their collection of styles!
Chapel Hill has a diverse and vibrant community, so feel free to blend classic styles with your personal flair. Whether you're heading to a game, exploring Franklin Street, or just enjoying the town's charm, there's a fashion style that suits every occasion.
