If a weekend getaway isn't complete without some outdoor adventure, let curiosity lead you to one of our many gardens, arboretums, state parks, preserves and trails.
Walk, Hike, Bike
Bring your walking, running, or biking shoes, because you’ll want to hit our trails. Explore winding paths through the North Carolina Botanical Garden, stroll the wide and welcoming Riverwalk in Hillsborough, bike the popular Bolin Creek Trail through Chapel Hill, or hike the many wooded trails through Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area. Dine Al Fresco
Thankfully, there aren’t many months here when outdoor dining is off limits. Grab lunch or dinner at Weaver Street Market—a popular choice among locals—and eat on the lawn. For dessert, try an ice cream cone at Maple View Farm Country Store in Hillsborough, where you can sit on the front porch and watch the sun set over the fields. DETAILS
Find Your Rhythm
From spring to fall, outdoor concerts are plentiful. The Carolina Inn’s Fridays on the Front Porch series features live music on the lawn of this charming historic hotel. A Sunday Concert on the Village Green in Southern Village is another great place to hear local and regional bands. Both are free, with food and adult beverages available. But BYOB (bring your own blanket) or chairs.
