Hop, Walk, or Crawl
With the numerous art galleries in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, and Last Fridays in Hillsborough, you could get your fill of museum hopping and gallery crawling. But the “can’t miss” on any list is Ackland Art Museum. It houses over 18,000 works of art, including European masterworks, 20th century and contemporary art, African art, Asian art, North Carolina pottery, and works on paper. DETAILS

If you’re visiting the area with kids, skip the galleries in favor of a walking tour of our vibrant downtown murals. If the weather isn’t cooperating, head to Kidzu Children’s Museum to explore the messier side of art (smocks provided) and let their creativity run free! DETAILS
Dim the Lights
No art lover’s retreat would be complete without a night at the theater. Choose from a mix of classics and new works at PlayMakers Repertory Company, the professional theatre in residence for UNC’s Department of Dramatic Art. The ArtsCenter in Carrboro features two galleries with rotating monthly exhibits and has an exceptional performance program attracting regionally and nationally acclaimed talent year after year.
