Shopping

Shop one of a kind stores where the wares are as unique as the shop owners and artisans; where you'll find walls and walls of Tar Heel memorabilia and sportswear, trendy clothing & accessories, flea market and hi-end antiques, and quirky & fun gifts. The downtown areas of Chapel Hill and neighboring Carrboro and Hillsborough have plenty of parking and are pedestrian friendly. But If you prefer a mall type atmosphere, we have those too.

University Place in Chapel Hill, anchored on one end by Sourthern Season and the other by Silverspot Cinema, has boutiques, galleries, restaurants, a kid's hands-on museum, and our local hometown radio station, WCHL. Speaking of Southern Season, it is one of the largest gourmet destinations in the South for specialty food and gifts. Southern Season has a full service wine & beer tasting bar, a cooking school, and a full service indoor/outdoor restaurant, Weathervane, which showcases a menu of creative, seasonal fare that highlights local ingredients also available in the store.

For a truly local shopping experience, head over to Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro. As the name states, Carr Mill is a former cotton mill built in 1898 known as Alberta Cotton Mill and is listed on the the National Register of Historic Places. Today the mill complex is home to unique shops and restaurants. Scroll down below to shop by category or by town.
