The fall days are upon us with crisp leaves and autumn colors, which means we are closing in on Halloween! There are plenty of events for those that want to be tricked and others that just wanted to be treated! 

Carving Pumpkins with Goats

Head over to Spring Haven Farm for a one-of-a-kind Pumpkin Carving with Goats extravaganza! They've combined the magic of the harvest season with the charm of our adorable and friendly goats to create a truly unique and delightful experience for all ages. The farm will be completely transformed into a magical Halloween wonderland of cornstalks and pumpkins! Take a ride on the tractor train, roast s'mores over the fire and search for gems at the mining sluice! There is so much to do at Spring Haven Farm!

Murder Mystery Night with Goats October 13, 8-11pm; Think Clue mixed with an escape room mixed with a scavenger hunt - it's going to be a wild and exciting night of spooky mystery on the farm! Hang out with all of our friendly animal detectives while you work hard to follow the clues and solve the mystery of who killed Farmer Andy! Come out for an adult, bewitchingly spooky farm party on October 28: Boo's & Booze! Tickets will include 1 drink from Durty Bull, 2 Animal Treat bags, 1 Spooky Activity: Tarot Reading, Palm Reading, or 15 mins of Axe Throwing. Burrito Bistro will be on site serving the tastiest burritos! Costumes are NOT required; however recommended.

Witch’s Haunted Barn at Firefly Farm

Family fun for kids of all ages - thrills and frights await you as you enter the Witch's Haunted Barn. Candy for every child at the end of the barn (if you survive!) There will be a coffin fitting room, complete with outfits for your eternal rest, A graveyard full of unsettled souls, Aliens, A room of First and Last Aid with a Mad Doctor, Spiders, spiders, and more spiders. Plus A haunted nursery - ring around a rosie, pocket full of posies…, A coffin in the kitchen where the Kitchen Crone is whipping up delectable goodies,  Skellies everywhere, The Butcher’s room, Hallway of Horrors (and clowns), The Vault, The Dungeon, A Witches Coven and so much more.  In addition to the barn: See the horses, donkeys, goats and chickens.

Haunted Hillsborough Ghost Tours!

Join the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough and The Orange Community Players for the annual Hillsborough Halloween Spirits Tours. Come face-to-face with ghostly residents to hear the chilling tales of Hillsborough’s spooky past. Original Historic Ghost Tour  - Join Enoch Pugh (deceased) for a 2.5 hour, 1.5-mile walk around downtown Hillsborough. Visit haunted houses and an execution site, and hear about numerous local "haints," real history, and native and post-colonial legends. And the "Haints" Misbehaving Ghost Tour This two-hour, 1.25 mile tour focuses solely on the local ghost tales and legends. Visit three haunted houses and hear seven other tales of mysterious, spectral happenings.

McKee Cornfield Maze

McKee Cedar Creek Farm’s Cornfield Maze - They do not call it Getting Lost but Getting Corn-Fused.   A source of healthy and wholesome entertainment for the entire family.  The mazes consist of walking pathways in a 12 acre field of corn, one of the largest in the area.  There is also a smaller maze for children or the young at heart.  Within each maze there are checkpoints with different shaped punch at each station. Come out to pick out pumpkins, take a hayride, have a picnic, celebrate birthdays and explore the mazes.

Orange County Feargrounds

Be prepared to be scared! The Orange County Feargrounds Haunted Barn is the area’s largest haunted attraction with over 20,000 sq. foot of indoor haunts and over a mile of scares and fun. 15,000 sq. foot of Terror! Open October 27&28, 7-10:30pm.

Myrtle Grove Haunt

Every Friday and Saturday until November 4, 6-7pm No Scare and 8-11pm Scare! Myrtle Grove Haunt is haunted barn and trail experience located in Hillsborough on Hwy 86N. A 5,500 square foot, two-level haunted barn with scares around every corner. Ready to be scared at a haunted house near you?

Events for Kids

Music and Stories Under the Stars at Weaver Street Market Carrboro, Join in for an evening of music and stories. Music will begin at 5pm. There will be a costume contest, registration will be held from 5-5:50pm. Winners of the costume contest will be announced before the storyteller. Bring a blanket or a low chair and snuggle up to these stellar shows! Appropriate for all ages. October 20, 5-7:30pm.

Halloween Carnival at the Carrboro Town Commons - Come enjoy the night and experience the great carnival games for all ages. They boast a host of carnival style activities that reward the children’s participation with a wickedly good Prize bag. Popcorn, sodas, hot chocolate, apple cider and coffee will be sold at the concession booth. October 27, 5:30-8pm.

Haunted Hill at the Chapel Hill Community Center, Grab a costume and join in for Trunk-or-Treat, some spooktacular games and activities, ghost stories, and a movie in the park! Trunk-or-Treat beings at 5pm and will end at 6pm. The movie begins at 7:30pm. Top prizes for top 3 trunks! October 28, 5-8:30pm.

Halloween Spooktacular held at the Field behind Central Recreation Center, all of your favorite activities such as the costume contest, pumpkin decorating, cakewalks, bingo, pumpkin hunt, and pumpkin bingo. Come in costume and ready to have fun! October 28, 1-4pm.

Halloween at the Burwell School Historic Site, be ready for tricks, thrills, and fun for all ages! Between 5 and 7pm, children are invited to craft their very own Halloween mask. October 27, starting at 5pm.
