Already established as a local producer (Boxcarr Farms is 30 acres of vegetables, pigs, chickens, and goats) and in the catering business known as {local} In Motion catering, the Genke team at Boxcarr Farms ventured into the craft of making and selling artisan cheese.

Genke Family, Boxcarr Farms

With the support of friends and family, production began in their 2,900 square foot cheese making facility located in Cedar Grove, North Carolina.

Boxcarr Handmade Cheese is inspired by the small country farmsteads of Italy and made with passion and hard work that is this first generation farming family's motto. Milk for the cheeses are locally sourced from Jersey and Holstein cow's raised by a long-time neighbor and Alpine, Nubian and Saanen goats from a nearby goat dairy. Boxcarr is currently producing nine varieties of cheese, one of which recently received the Good Food award (2017)

You can find Boxcarr Handmade Cheese here locally at Weaver Street Market, Southern Season and Whole Foods Market, in select locations in Durham, Raleigh and Pittsboro and across North Carolina in Asheville, Charlotte, and Greensboro.
