Chapel Hill, NC (November 16, 2020)-- After an extended closure due to COVID-19, the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitor Center has begun resuming operations by reopening its Welcome Center at 501 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Visitors Center officially opened on November 16.

With new safety measures in place, the downtown Visitor Center is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to welcome visitors, offer information services, and provide updates on local attractions, museums, hotels and walking tours.  Visitor Center amenities include a public restroom, complimentary parking in the back (Bentley Building) parking lot and various Gift items for sale by cash or check.  

Visitors are required to wear masks and maintain six feet of physical-distance to provide a safe experience for all visitors.

Trained staff have the most current and comprehensive information about the area’s activities and attractions.  

The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau is a program of Orange County, NC. The Visitors Bureau received certification in North Carolina’s Count On Me NC program which is an evidence-based training program that provides specific guidance to visitors centers, restaurants, hotels, attractions and other businesses on best practices for North Carolina’s phased reopening after the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. As part of its commitment to creating a trusted space for guests and employees, these measures and procedures are in place:
•    Requiring face coverings for employees and guests
•    Face coverings provided
•    Plastic disposable gloves available for brochure browsing
•    Accommodating social distancing throughout the visitor center
•    Implementing increased frequency of sanitization and disinfection
•    Changing weekday operating hours to 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to allow more time for cleaning and sanitizing
