Initial tours offered this summer

CHAPEL HILL, NC – June 24, 2022 - Visiting town? Are you a newcomer to this area? Are you a longtime resident with a desire to refresh your knowledge of our local history? You are invited to “Walk with a Local” on a walking tour of downtown Chapel Hill to explore the shared history, outstanding Talent and stories that link town and campus together.

These free tours, on select Fridays at 3:30 pm, are guided by a Hometown Local History Ambassador, a joint program of the Chapel Hill Historical Society and Preservation Chapel Hill in collaboration with the Chapel Hill/Orange County Welcome Center. Missy Julian Fox will be leading the tours.

The tour will last 60 - 90 minutes and begin from the Chapel Hill/Orange County Welcome Center at 308 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill. Please sign up for a Hometown Ambassadors Walking Tour online on the Heart of the Hills Tour website. Tour dates were selected to offer the greatest opportunity for participation and, also for a variety of helpful insights. 

The walking tours will leave at 3:30 pm on the following Fridays:
July 1 (July 4th holiday weekend)
July 15
July 29
August 12 (UNC move-in weekend)
August 26 (home football game)
September 9 (away game)
Sept 23 (home football game)

Free parking is available for visitors to the welcome center and tour participants.
