Retirement announcement
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - After more than two decades of service to Orange County, Laurie Paolicelli, Executive Director of the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau (CHOCVB), announced her retirement effective November 2, 2026.
Paolicelli has served Orange County for 21 years, leading the Visitors Bureau through a period of significant growth and transformation. Through her leadership—and in partnership with community stakeholders—the organization has expanded the local tourism industry, increased the scale and diversity of major events, and reinforced the importance of personal hospitality by welcoming thousands of visitors each year through the community’s live, in-person Visitors Center services. In an increasingly digital world, many travelers continue to express appreciation for the warmth, guidance, and local knowledge provided through face-to-face customer service in Chapel Hill.
“Laurie’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping Orange County’s tourism economy,” said D.R. Bryan, Chair of the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau. “Her focus on results, commitment to priorities, and consistent presence across the many events in Orange County have reminded us of the number and variety of tourism and hospitality attractions our county offers visitors and locals.”
During her tenure, Paolicelli helped position tourism and hospitality as a key contributor to the local economy. Her work has elevated the visibility of Orange County as a place to live, visit, and invest.
Paolicelli will remain in her role through November 2, 2026.
