Chapel Hill, NC -  (March 5, 2025) – International soccer excitement is coming to Chapel Hill as Kenan Stadium prepares to host a highly anticipated match between the Mexican Men’s National Team and the Turkey National Team on June 10, 2025. This historic match will bring top-tier soccer talent to the region, attracting fans from across the country and beyond. Mexico will play two European opponents this June in the United States as part of the 2025 MexTour, just days before the start of this summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup. The matches will also serve as important preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) announced that Mexico will open the 22nd annual MexTour on Saturday, June 7, against Switzerland at Salt Lake City’s Rice-Eccles Stadium on the campus of the University of Utah. Three days later, on Tuesday, June 10, it will be a special evening of firsts as Mexico takes on EURO 2024 quarter-finalists Türkiye (Turkey) for the first time in its history.  The match will take place at the 50,000-seat Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, NC, home of the University of North Carolina’s football program, in what will be Mexico’s first-ever game in the city.

Tickets for the match will go on sale March 10 at 10 a.m., through the GoHeels.com website at  https://goheels.evenue.net/events/MXT and through  www.SomosLocales.com.

The event is expected to provide a significant economic boost, with an estimated $7 million in direct and indirect spending in Chapel Hill and Orange County. This impact includes lodging, restaurants, transportation, and related travel expenses, reinforcing the area’s appeal as a premier destination for international sporting events.

With both teams and their staff staying in local hotels for four days, plus thousands of fans traveling in for the match, businesses across the region—hotels, bars, restaurants, and retail shops—will see increased activity. Additionally, the teams will arrive via chartered flights into RDU International Airport, highlighting the Triangle’s capability to host global sporting competitions.

A Clash of Footballing Cultures
This match marks a rare meeting between two teams with rich footballing histories:
The Mexican National Team features players from top flight European leagues, as well as MLS and Liga MX, the two top leagues in the continent. The Turkey National Team has a strong European pedigree, with historic performances in tournaments such as Euro 2008, where they reached the semifinals in dramatic fashion. Turkish clubs also have a legacy in European club competitions, particularly Galatasaray, the first Turkish team to win a major UEFA trophy.
