Chapel Hill, NC - (July 23, 2025) - Visit Chapel Hill is launching a free trolley service on three Saturdays this August to celebrate the UPROAR Festival of Public Art. Sponsored by the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau, the trolleys will help residents and visitors explore Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and nearby the UNC campus with ease.
Trolley Dates and Times:
- Saturday, August 2, 2025 – from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Saturday, August 9, 2025 – from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Saturday, August 16, 2025 – from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Two air-conditioned trolleys will run on a continuous loop through downtown Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Riders can get on and off at any stop throughout the day. No trolley tickets or registration are required to ride. Look for the trolley stop signs at standard Chapel Hill Transit Bus Stops. Maps noting the Uproar art installation locations will be available as well. Uproar Festival of Public Art runs August 1 - 23.

- East Rosemary Parking Deck, 125 E. Rosemary Street, Chapel Hill

What More to Expect on Board:
Looking for even more fun? Kids riding the trolley can play the Visit Chapel Hill "I Spy" game—a scavenger hunt to spot ten interesting sights in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, such as the large clockface or a colorful mural. Complete the game and receive a free ice cream cup at the Chapel Hill/Orange County Welcome Center, located at 308 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill.
“The trolley is great way to see art, visit local shops and restaurants, and enjoy the area without worrying driving, traffic and how to access this cool art,” said Katie Murray, Director of the Orange County Arts Commission.
The Welcome Center, operated by Visit Chapel Hill, will open extended evening hours on these three Saturdays in August as well as open on Sundays August 3-17.
