Soil is Everything: A Vegetable Gardening Workshop
Chapel Hill, NC
Learn to think of soil as a living ecosystem and use that understanding for gardening success. We will cover different soil types, building soil with organic amendments based on soil testing, effects of tillage, working with raised beds and more. We will show you how to turn heavy clay into good garden soil. The first hour and a half will be indoors with some hands-on followed by a half hour in the community garden to learn more about raised beds and preparing the soil for planting. Note: This program takes place in the Newman Catholic Student Center library, next to the Carolina Campus Community Garden (CCCG). Following the workshop, you are invited to attend the CCCG workday from 3-5 p.m. for some hands-on experience.
