Hike: Peak of Autumn at Penny’s Bend with Ed Harrison, Naturalist. Explore the fall landscape of this 84-acre natural area in northeast Durham, and learn about how the Garden manages this unique property. Surrounded on three sides by the Eno River, Penny’s Bend Nature Preserve encompasses mature forests and prairies with regionally rare plants. Much of this hike is on primitive trails over uneven terrain, with one short, steep climb up from the river. Wear sturdy footwear and bring water (and a walking stick if you use one). Meeting spot supplied upon registration.
