The Ackland Film Forum is collaboration between the Ackland Art Museum and numerous departments at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill highlighting various aspects of the art of cinema and showcasing the aesthetic power of film. Art films, narrative films, and documentaries are chosen by UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and Ackland staff, often in connection with particular courses, campus-wide initiatives, or exhibitions. For 40 years, photographer Sebastião Salgado has traveled across the world and witnessed some of the major events of our recent history, including civil wars, starvation, and mass immigrations. He is now exploring the world’s pristine territories, documenting wild fauna and flora and grand landscapes, as part of a massive photographic project as a tribute to the earth’s beauty.
