There’s nothing like a long weekend to kick off the unofficial start to summer in Chapel Hill and Orange County. Memorial Day Weekend BBQ: What’s more Memorial Day-esque than a barbecue? Absolutely nothing! Head to Southern Season Saturday from 11-3 to enjoy live music, hamburgers, hot dogs and cobbler cooked the old-fashioned way on the Big Green Egg.

JAWSFest Chapel Hill: Looking for a more nontraditional Memorial Day celebration? Enjoy JAWSFest, a fun-filled two day festival featuring live music at The Local 506, art, food trucks, a punk rock flea market at The Baxter and more. Activities start at noon on Saturday.

May Mayhem with Baby Goats: Spring Haven Farm provides fun for all ages during their May Mayhem event. Baby animals to interact with, face painting for youngsters and Tractor Train Express rides make for a fun filled weekend. Stop by Saturday or Sunday for just $12 admission.

Jazz Brunch at Weaver Street Market Carrboro: Enjoy music by Dana and Susan Robinson during the May 27th edition of Jazz Brunch at Weaver Street Market. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to soak in the sounds from 11-1. Talk about a Sunday Funday!

Auction at Leland Little: Cap off your long weekend with a 19-year strong tradition! The Annual Memorial Day Auction at Leland Little Auction and Estate Sales starts at 9 a.m. sharp Monday morning. You never know what great buys you’ll find!

Memorial Day Remembrance Event: Don’t miss a chance to honor the real reason for this long weekend. Head to the Orange County Veterans Memorial at 2501 Homestead Road for a 7:45 a.m. memorial service followed by a motorcycle rally and tour.
