After a $2.9 million dollar renovation, the historic Colonial Inn, built circa 1838, will reopen its doors in November 2020 in downtown Hillsborough, NC, twenty minutes from both Chapel Hill and Durham, NC. The landmark building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and stood empty for nearly two decades until, in 2018, a group of investors stepped in and purchased the Inn. It is now owned by Allied Decor LLC.

The Colonial Inn shines with a new neoclassical design and a boutique feel, from custom made navy-blue velour cozy seats in the lobby and oak beams and antique brass accessories.  A brick fireplace and a hip bar area with wing back chairs and brass cocktail holders help to create a warm and inviting space.

Lobby/Bar The Colonial Inn, Hillsborough

Just some of the unique interior accents:

  • The front desk and bar were handcrafted and created from reclaimed wood.

  • The lobby and bar are the two oldest spaces in the hotel.

  • More than 30 local artists will be featured throughout the hotel and artwork will be available for sale.

  • The Inn will offer 28 guest rooms with 7 different room designs in varying sizes and shapes.

  • A luxurious suite with a self heating hot tub awaits newlyweds, honeymooners, or couples looking for a romantic getaway.

Upon entering, visitors will love the prominent two-story porch, stretching across the front facade, and comprising a collection of architectural features acquired over time. It represents various developments of vernacular architecture in Hillsborough in the early and late 19th century, and the common process of updating, expanding, and adapting buildings over a long period of time. The porches as well as a new fire pit area and the brick patio between the original building and new guest room wing provides a gathering place for guests and the community. Guests and visitors can also relax in the lush courtyard overlooking a mature magnolia tree.

A beautiful courtyard showcases southern native plants and is ideal for outdoor wedding ceremonies and receptions on the lush lawn. The Inn is working with two preferred caterers, Rocky Top Hospitality and Beau Catering. However, clients who book the event space are allowed to bring in their own caterer. Bar service will be offered by the Inn. The Inn will offer a Sunday Community Brunch from 9am to 2pm. And the bar will offer a limited menu with southern Bistro flair.
