The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover: Reimagined

  • Peter Greenaway CBE, the English artist and film-maker is without peer. He has been making extraordinary films for the last 50 years, including the celebrated Drowning By Numbers, The Belly of an Architect and this year’s Eisenstein in Guanajuato. His 1989 film The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover is being presented here in a completely unique form. An edit of the original film is being offered as a backdrop to a brand new score, written and performed by Tim Carless.  Carless has previously created live, improvised scores to Buster Keaton’s The General and Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life here at the Arts Center. The film has been edited to a crisp 60 minutes. Greenaway’s lush and lurid sets, coupled with costumes from Jean Paul Gaultier provide a tapestry of rich imagery and inspiration for this new score. Tickets $16 Advance, $18 Day of Show.
