Community Read

  • The Orange County Human Relations Commission is recommending three outstanding books to be read in 2015-16 as part of our Annual Community Read program.  The Commission has, in the past, recommended a single book each year, but could find no single book that was sufficiently comprehensive regarding this complex subject to stand alone.  We hope readers in Orange County will read one (two, or all) of these remarkable books, and then join us for a discussion of them in March.  The books are Far From the Tree, by Andrew Solomon (2013), Beauty is a Verb, Sheila Black, Jennifer Bartlett and Michael Northen, and Paying with their Bodies: American War and the Problem of the Disabled Veteran, by John M. Kinder (2015) A Reader's Forum on this subject will be held on March 21, 2016 with featured speaker, Kim Lan Grout, author of the blog, Redefining Disabled: www.redefiningdisabled.org. FREE.
