The Carrboro Bicycle Coalition started the Carrboro Open Streets Event in 2013. The main purpose of Carrboro Open Streets was to recreate the street and encourage community building through a variety of activities. The event is held annually in April on Weaver Street. The community is invited to dance, do yoga, ride their bikes, climb a rock wall, make smoothies on a bike blender, and participate in many other activities in a public space that not many ever thought of as a place to partake in recreation.
