Cookbook Signing: Biscuits- A Savor the South from Belinda Ellis

For fifteen years, food writer Belinda Ellis traveled around the country for the White Lily® flour company, teaching people to make biscuits and listening to their stories. "I learned that deep in the soul of a biscuit, there’s more than the flour, fat, and milk. A hot biscuit embodies a memory of place and family," she writes. Ellis's heartfelt tribute to the biscuit celebrates the many possible flavors and uses for this classic southern bread. The first recipe in the book is a master recipe with step-by-step photographs showing how to make the perfect biscuit.

Author Dana Golan at Flyleaf Books

Dana Golan, veteran of the Israeli Defense Forces and past executive director of  Israeli NGO Breaking the Silence, brings reports from Israeli soldiers and veterans compiled in the book Our Harsh Logic: Israeli Soldiers’ Testimonies from the Occupied Territories, 2000-2010.  Breaking the Silence compiles hundreds of testimonies that reveal the psychological price soldiers pay for enforcing the military occupation.  The organization seeks to close the gap between the reality soldiers experienced while enforcing the military occupation of Palestinians and the silence about occupation that they encounter at home.  It also allows a broader understanding of Israeli government policy goals, a crucial and timely topic as the peace talks begin again.
