Winston-Salem, NC (June 12, 2007) – The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau received three tourism marketing awards at the 8th annual North Carolina Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus annual meeting and awards banquet held June 7 at the Marriott Hotel here.
A panel of tourism leaders from Virginia and South Carolina voted the Visitors Bureau’s 2007 Official Visitors Guide a Platinum award for “Best Primary Publication,“ while the 2005-2006 Annual Report received a Platinum award for “Best Local Constituent Communication Outreach.“ The Bureau’s Website was honored with a Gold award for “Best Destination Marketing Initiative“.
“It is rewarding that tourism leaders from competing destinations judged our Visitors Guide as one of the best, creative displays of a town’s tourism offerings.” said Laurie Paolicelli, executive director of the Visitors Bureau. “Promoting Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough through compelling promotions is our priority. We are thrilled that a jury of our peers acknowledged these efforts with three important awards.“.
The North Carolina Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus received nearly 200 award entries from convention and visitors bureaus from across North Carolina. Membership in the association is comprised of 42 destination-marketing organizations helping represent the $15-billion tourism industry in North Carolina. The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau competed in the medium-size category of visitors bureaus.
The NCACVB Destination Marketing Achievement Awards were created to honor and showcase innovation, best practices, creativity and outstanding efforts and results in destination marketing efforts by convention and visitors bureaus across the state.
