Visitors Bureau Encourages Residents to Discover Tourism Traditions During National Tourism Week

Chapel Hill, NC (May 5, 2008) – The theme of the Travel Industry Association’s 25th annual National Tourism Week is Discover Great American Traditions. This silver anniversary theme encourages travel to American locales and highlights the role that tourism plays in discovering the icons of a destination.

“In celebration, the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau encourages everyone to discover Orange County’s great tourism traditions and be a tourist in their own community,” said Laurie Paolicelli, Visitors Bureau Executive Director. “There is so much to explore right here at home in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough.”

The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau has received official proclamations signed by Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy, Carrboro Mayor Mark Chilton, Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens and Orange County Board of Commissioners Chair Barry Jacobs, designating May 10-18, 2008 as National Tourism Week in the municipalities and the county.

Drop by the Visitors Center at 501 West Franklin Street to pick up a free Visitors Guide or Visitors Map or visit http://www.visitchapelhill.org, the Bureau’s new updated website. The Bureau can provide information about area attractions, events, dining and more. The Visitors Center is open Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm.

The mission of the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau is to develop and coordinate visitor services in Orange County and to implement marketing programs that will enhance the economic activity and quality of life in the community. The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau is fully funded by hotel occupancy taxes paid by visitors.
