Hillsborough Candlelight Tour Features Wine Tasting, Carriage Rides, Gingerbread Houses and Beautiful Historic Homes
HILLSBOROUGH, NC – (November 6, 2009) – The 23rd annual Historic Hillsborough Candlelight Tour is Sunday, December 6 from Noon – 7 pm. The tour features eight private homes, plus historic sites, churches and public buildings. All will be exquisitely decorated for the holiday season, including the historic “Over the River” home. Venues will feature live music and some will have refreshments. A shuttle will be available during the tour. Up to 30 gingerbread houses will be on display at the Burwell School Historic Site, one of the tour stops. Attendees can also enjoy festive horse-drawn carriage rides from Noon – 5 p.m. for $5 per person. Musical entertainment features a Handbell Choir, pianists, school choral groups and bands, carolers, tuba quartet and more.
New this year is a Wine Tasting for $3 per person at the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber Office from 1 – 4 p.m. Participants will be able to keep their glass and six different wines will be available from the Benjamin Vineyards & Winery in Graham in Alamance County.
Local Author Lee Smith will be at the Orange County Historical Museum to talk about the inspiration behind her magazine article “My Mother’s Recipe Box.” Stop by the Museum on Sunday from 2 – 3 pm to hear her speak about her article and the use of food references in many of her books.
Also, a collectible ornament of the historic Twin Chimneys home in downtown Hillsborough is available for purchase.
