Hillsborough: A Home Town Feel

March 07 2008 by Rachel Hawkins

Hillsborough is my hometown, and having grown up on a farm, three miles outside of Hillsborough, I experienced the best of both worlds by living three miles from town, and as the result of my mom teaching in the local school system. I always remember the ease of our community especially being able to walk downtown every day after school to the James Pharmacy with my friends.

Now flash ahead 40 years, and my roots are still here. My two sons grew up in the same spirit of close-knit community, so close to downtown. And now their children enter the picture, being offered the same quality of life.

Although the population has changed, the streets remain the same.

My roots keep me here in Hillsborough and Orange County, and I have just a 4 mile commute to work. I can ride a bike to the grocery store or walk to the ice cream parlor! I can play tennis, walk, and exercise at the gym— all within 3 miles of my house.

My grandchildren will attend the same schools as I did, and I trust that they will experience much of the same simplicity, nature and safety albeit in a different era!

Although (managed) growth and development are strong in Hillsborough, the serenity of a safe, small town remains in-tact, from generation to generation.
