The largest comedy festival in the southern U.S. features sketch comedy, standup and improv is February 1-19. The North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival is the brain child of, Zach Ward. He founded DSI Comedy Theater, where he is artistic director, and also started the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, for which he serves as executive producer. A critically acclaimed comedian, Ward performs locally and around the country.
At the 12th annual NC Comedy Festival in 2012, seven venues host performances in Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Durham and each event celebrates humor in all its forms. Show times vary. Standup Week is February 1-5 featuring Mike Birbiglia, Eddie Brill, Rah Sivaraman, Gaby Dunn, Tom Keller, John Savoy, April Richardson and Tim Hoeckel. Sketch Week is February 8-12 featuring Second City, Paul Thomas, Thunderstoon, Adventures of Whitestache, Boat, and Coach Crotchky. Improv Week is February 14-19 featuring the Magnet Tourco, Two Man Movie, Junior Varsity, Death by Roo Roo, Dual Exhaust and The Chris Gethard Show.
DSI Comedy Theater is located in Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro.
