At the Carrboro Community 4th of July Celebration enjoy a variety of musical performances, entertainers, face painting, games and a juggling Uncle Sam on stilts. The excitement begins on the Weaver Street Market lawn at 9:30 am with a costume contest. Decorate your bike or wagon for the traditional Main Street parade to Town Hall where you can party the day away with Big Mama E & the Cool, a five-piece rock & roll band from Raleigh, featuring its own brand of original rock & roll music with a southern R&B flavor. End the day with Chapel Hill’s Fireworks Celebration at Kenan Memorial Stadium on the UNC campus. The event features live music by Johnny White & The Elite Band offering Motown, Top 40, beach, R&B and more. Gate 6 opens at 7 p.m. on the stadium’s south side. Live music begins at 8 p.m. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Face painting, juggling, balloon twisting. Free glow necklaces will go to the first 8,000 in the gate. Recommended parking is on the University’s South Campus at Craig, Jackson, and Cardinal parking decks off Manning Drive and the Rams Head parking deck off Ridge Road. Alcohol is prohibited, and no coolers, outside containers or food items will be allowed in the stadium. However, concession stands will be open.
