This one-of-a-kind event is the centerpiece of Carolina’s 100 years of basketball celebration, which began with the Professional Alumni game on Sept. 4, 2009. Celebration of a Century is much more than just an old-timers game. The night will include decade-by-decade basketball matchups of your Tar Heel basketball favorites, giveaways, historical video features, Roy Williams and the 2010 Tar Heels, and a host of Carolina legends. The guiding principle for the night is simple: give fans a one-night-only opportunity to celebrate the UNC basketball centennial, and allow everyone to relive the crowning moments of Carolina Basketball. Over the course of the evening, there will be interview sessions with former players (hundreds of lettermen will be in town for the weekend’s festivities) and reenactments of some of the most famous shots in Tar Heel history. The grand finale will be a recognition and a tribute to Coach Dean Smith.
The event is sold out but if you plan to attend, parking is available in various lots near the Smith Center or you may take the Chapel Hill Transit Tar Heel Express shuttles which are $5 roundtrip and $3 one-way. The shuttles will run 90 minutes before the event from the Friday Center on Hwy 54, Southern Village (15-501), Jones Ferry Lot and the Carolina Coffee Shop downtown. Shuttles will not run from the University Mall Lot. General Public Parking on campus will be available on a first-come-first serve basis beginning 5:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Deck, Jackson Deck, Craige Deck, Bowles Lot, Rams Head Deck and Manning Lot. The cost for parking will be $10 for regular sized vehicles and $40 for buses.

I am surprising my husband with tickets to the Celebration of a Century. He is a HUGE Dean Smith (no disrespect to Roy Williams) and was sad to see him retire. We look for to the game and if we’re fortunate, maybe my husband could shake Dean Smith’s hand.
