Last year Money Magazine named Chapel Hill to its list of Best Places to Live. Next month MONEY magazine is bringing its 2011 ““Take Charge Live!” event to Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina campus on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.
MONEY launched the branded series in 2010 to capitalize on a challenging time in the economy and hosted events in four cities across the U.S. that MONEY magazine named the “Best Places to Live.” “Take Charge Live!” brings together a panel of editorial experts from MONEY, providing local residents with trusted financial advice. The event is sponsored by TransAmerica.
“This is a great opportunity to discuss the financial issues facing individuals and communities across the nation,” Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt said. “I hope the event is successful and they enjoy their time in Chapel Hill.”
Earlier this summer, MONEY extended an invitation to 25 towns on MONEY’s 2010 Best Places to Live list to submit a proposal for hosting “Take Charge Live!” in their community. Chapel Hill was chosen as one of only two cities to ultimately host the event because of its University atmosphere, access to a large student and citizen population and the small town community feel.
“Take Charge Live!” features MONEY editors in a live Q&A discussion on smart investing and offering tips on managing personal finances, including saving for college and planning for retirement. Today’s Americans consider the management of their finances a top priority. People are looking for straightforward, simple solutions for their personal finances. MONEY is a trusted advisor to 7.9 million Americans who are taking charge of their financial goals.
MONEY’s “Take Charge Live!” event will take place on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 6:30 – 8:30pm at the University of North Carolina’s School of Government Knapp-Sanders Hall, 400 South Road. Admission is free and the event will also include a pre-event reception with locally catered refreshments. Please pre-register at http://www.moneytakecharge.com/.
