Carolina Performing Arts presents a full schedule of performances in March 2012. This month features Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir with conductor Ton Koopman, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Circa dance company, Herbie Hancock and Whispering Pines by Shana Moulton and Nick Hallett.
All performances are at UNC’s Memorial Hall on Cameron Avenue in the heart of the UNC campus. Be at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium as the UNC Baseball team moves through the first part of the 2012 season with eight more home games before hitting the road on March 7. Over the next two weeks the Heels host Wright State for a three game series, St Johns, USC for three games and Davidson. The Heels are 2-1 after the first weekend.
Mini-season ticket packages (3, 6 and 15 games) are available as well as individual game tickets. Non-conference tickets are $5-$7 and conference are $7-$10. The stadium is located on Ridge Road in the heart of the Carolina campus. The next home game is 3 pm on Friday, February 24 vs. Wright State.

The extended season for the Hillsborough Arts Council’s Last Fridays Art Walk showcasing the talents of local artists in studios and galleries in downtown Hillsborough kicks off on riday February 24. Many venues will have artist and opening receptions from 6 – 9 pm.
The Gallery at the Hillsborough Arts Council at 220 South Churton Street will be featuring “Personally Yours: Portraits and Cottage Scapes” by Dorothy Whitmore.
The Eno Gallery at 100 South Churton Street will be featuring “Totems and Talismans” Sculpture Invitational. Eleven artists exhibit their contemporary interpretations of “Totems and Talismans”. Exhibiting artists include: Alice Ballard, Lisa Creed, Daniel Essig, John Geldersma, Virginia Gibbons, Kelly Guidry, Tinka Jordy, William Moore, Hope Swann, Kathy Triplett, and Susan Wells. A solo exhibition of ceramic vessels in the lower gallery will be featuring Donna Polseno “Metaphors of Containment”.
The Hillsborough Artists Cooperative and The Skylight Gallery at 102 West King Street will be featuring work by studio artists Jayne Bomberg and Tom Guthrie (The Studio of Collective Effervescence), Jennifer E. Miller, Andrea DeGette, Jacquelin Liggins, Tiffney Marley, and Calvin Brett. The Skylight Gallery will be featuring “Dreams for Tomorrow” acrylic on wood by Calvin Brett. The show is a fund raiser for The Tomorrow Fund for Hispanic Students. Calvin Brett will donate 40% of his sales to the fund and the show’s visitors may also donate to the fund.
Cup A Joe at 120 West King Street will be featuring photography by Dallas Pridgen.
Sovero Art Gallery & Studio at 121 North Churton Street, Suite 2-B will be featuring jewelry and oil paintings by Peruvian artist David Sovero.
The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts at 121 North Churton Street will be featuring “Ebb & Flow” new artwork by the 22 local artists at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts.

Grammy Award-winning bassist Christian McBride and the Inside Straight band will headline this year’s Carolina Jazz Festival Feb. 23-25 at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Saxophonist Steve Wilson, a member of Inside Straight, will be the artist in residence for the 35th annual festival. This year’s festival, themed “Jazz: In Sound and Image,” also features a roving photography exhibit.
Workshops, concerts and late-night jams during the festival will showcase the guest artists, UNC Jazz Band, UNC Jazz Combos and Charanga Carolina. The Essentially Ellington Regional High School Jazz Festival, presented in conjunction with Jazz at Lincoln Center, returns for its seventh year. High school and middle school bands from North Carolina and Virginia will come to UNC’s Frank Porter Graham Student Union on Feb. 23 for a day of performances and clinics.
